2027: Why Most Governors Seeking Re-election Will Be Disappointed – Kwankwaso
The vice-presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, expressed that several governors who have switched allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after neglecting the requirements of the populace will face disillusionment in 2027, as they mistakenly think that the party’s influence will secure them another term.
The vice-presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, expressed that several governors who have switched allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after neglecting the requirements of the populace will face disillusionment in 2027, as they mistakenly think that the party’s influence will secure them another term.
According to Naija News, Kwankwaso shared these insights on Sunday in Abuja during the Personality Interview Series organized by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Kwankwaso indicated that governors who aim to manipulate the electoral process and utilize state infrastructures for re-election will find themselves disappointed since the citizens will not rally behind them.
He stated, “In my view, many governors looking for re-election in 2027 will end up disheartened as the public will not back them.”
The previous Governor of Kano State asserted that Nigerians are increasingly becoming aware of political dynamics and will not support politicians solely based on their control over governmental frameworks.
Kwankwaso mentioned that escalating issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, joblessness, and inadequate public services could significantly influence the voting behavior of Nigerians in the upcoming 2027 elections. He pointed out the alarming number of out-of-school children and the threats to community safety as key factors driving citizens to demand more capable leadership.
The prominent figure in the NDC also stressed that politicians defecting from opposition parties to join the APC are doing so under the impression that it will provide them with a political edge as the 2027 elections approach.
He emphasized that the ultimate choice lies with the electorate, irrespective of the political influence held by current governors, and remarked that proactive governance could enhance the lives of citizens if resources are allocated effectively to tackle urgent problems.
