Naija News states that Mikel Arteta’s team found the net three times in the Community Shield showdown on Sunday, thanks to efforts from Riccardo Calafiori, Kai Havertz, and Martin Odegaard.
In his response, Maresca labeled the encounter as unsatisfactory. He voiced his disappointment that his team was unable to capitalize on the opportunities they created.
He indicated that the situation became increasingly challenging for his players after Arsenal scored their second goal.
He remarked: “I believe the goal we allowed just 25 seconds into the match unfortunately influenced the game at that time.
“After that goal, the reaction was relatively positive before they netted the second one; we had three or four opportunities to equalize, but regrettably, we conceded again and it made the situation more difficult.”
“I’m upset about that because in matches like these, the teams are closely matched, and conceding makes it difficult; however, I think our response after the first goal was solid, and we generated chances, but again, going down 2-0 was even more challenging,” Maresca emphasized.
According to News, Arsenal scored their opening goal in merely 24 seconds.
The Gunners’ left-back, Riccardo Calafiori, netted the initial goal, while a precise header from Kai Havertz before halftime reinforced Arsenal’s ambition in the Community Shield.
Taking advantage of Manchester City’s careless display, Martin Odegaard scored the third goal just after the interval in the 48th minute, sealing a convincing victory at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
This outcome signifies that Arsenal will commence the 2026 season as champions for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign.
