I Don’t Have To Be President – Kwankwaso Reveals Why He Agreed To Be Obi’s Running Mate
The vice presidential nominee for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, mentioned that his choice to partner with former Anambra governor Peter Obi was motivated by the welfare of the nation, rather than personal desires for power.

He emphasized that being President is not a necessity for him, claiming that holding a public role should focus on serving the populace.
Naija News notes that Kwankwaso expressed his views during the News Agency of Nigeria Personality Interview Series on Sunday in Abuja.
"I have never held the position of vice president. I believe this is a positive advancement despite all the points you've raised.
"For me, participating in governance equates to serving others. I am not required to be president. I do not even have to be vice president. Those matters rest in the hands of Almighty Allah.
"Nonetheless, it is essential to view the current situation from a perspective that transcends one's personal interests," he stated.
Additionally, the governor remarked that his experience from the 2023 elections has deepened his understanding of Obi.
He indicated that he is confident they can collaborate for the benefit of the nation.
"People gain new insights every day, which is why experience holds great significance. In 2023, we sought to collaborate, and at that time, I had limited knowledge of Peter Obi.
"However, throughout the past four years, I have learned significantly and come to appreciate that Peter is someone I can partner with," he added.
He stated that the decision followed discussions with members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Obidient Movement.
Kwankwaso clarified that these groups believed that a well-balanced ticket was essential to garner support from both northern and southern regions.
He expressed concern that the security issues plaguing the nation, in addition to agricultural productivity and declining infrastructure, led him to endorse a political arrangement aimed at fostering democratic reform.
