Tinubu Has Done Well, What More Do I Want? – Adeleke Withdraws Suit Against EFCC

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has retracted the legal action initiated against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding the freezing of the state's bank account prior to the recent gubernatorial election.

Naija News reminds us that Adeleke had previously contested the EFCC’s action to obtain a court order for freezing the state’s account, labeling it as politically motivated and obstructive to the administration’s operations.

In response to the freeze, President Bola Tinubu later instructed the corruption-fighting agency to remove the restrictions and cease the associated legal proceedings, expressing concerns about the timing of the account freeze.

Shortly after being declared the victor of the gubernatorial election, Adeleke mentioned in an interview with Channels Television’s Sunday Politics that he has advised the state’s Attorney General to withdraw the case against the EFCC.

Adeleke indicated that Tinubu had intervened in the matter and he has resolved to move past the political disputes and the EFCC issues.

He expressed, “I’m leaving this behind. What else do I desire? I have told my Attorney General to withdraw it. The President has acted positively. He reached out to me. What more could I ask for?”

Regarding reports that some of his supporters and officials faced questioning from the EFCC, Adeleke stated that he instructed his legal team to offer the necessary support.

Adeleke also supported Tinubu, emphasizing that the President was not aware of certain actions attributed to federal agencies.

He commented, “Well, we have been in discussions. I have been contacting all my attorneys to go there. I believe the APC in Osun is implying that they are leveraging federal influence.

“The President is not informed about most of this. He is occupied with numerous foreign responsibilities and tasks.”

As per Adeleke, certain aides of his were summoned by the EFCC for inquiries but were released when no misconduct was proven.

He characterized the summons as a diversion and claimed that former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, was responsible for this situation due to his ties with Tinubu.

He continued, “I instructed my team to go there. We have nothing to conceal. When they attend, they are questioned and subsequently told to leave. Can you believe it? Inviting my spokesperson—are they a finance minister or accountant?

“Such matters stem from Oyetola because of his connection to the President. He is invoking the President’s name. I am confident that the President was not aware of the EFCC situation. That's why he had to reach out to me and put an end to it.”
