‘Tinubu Needs To Go Home And Rest, He Has Tried His Best’ – Peter Obi
The candidate for presidency from the National Democratic Party (NDC), Peter Obi, has endorsed the viewpoint of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), indicating that President Bola Tinubu is making efforts to tackle Nigeria’s security issues.

Nevertheless, Obi contended that the efforts by the President have not reached the standards of security expected by Nigerians, suggesting that Tinubu ought to resign and “return home for some rest.”
According to Naija News, the previous governor of Anambra State expressed this opinion during a conversation with media figure Chude Jideonwo, which was posted on YouTube on Thursday.
He was reacting to a query regarding why citizens should support his presidential bid over an alternative opposition candidate.
Obi encouraged voters to evaluate his prior performance in public roles and contrast it with the policies and ideas he is advocating for the upcoming election.
“It’s for you to examine my history and consider my current propositions,” he stated.
In discussing Adeboye’s recent remarks regarding Tinubu’s management of insecurity, Obi referred to the cleric as a respected religious authority whose perspective deserves consideration.
He acknowledged Adeboye’s assertion that the President had made sincere attempts but emphasized the more pressing concern was whether those efforts were sufficient to remedy the nation’s escalating security issues.
Obi said, “Someone asked me yesterday about Pastor Adeboye's statement that Tinubu has done his utmost and he feels unhappy.
“And I affirmed that Pastor Adeboye is a highly revered and esteemed religious figure whose sincerity and kindness I trust.
“He was right to claim that the President has tried his best. He is doing his best. That’s accurate.
“The crucial inquiry is: Is his best adequate? Given our current situation, that leads us to the issue of capability.”
Obi argued that effective leadership should be evaluated based on outcomes and the ability to address the pressing issues facing the populace.
The opposition figure highlighted competence, capacity, compassion, commitment, and character as vital attributes for anyone aspiring to govern the nation.
He claimed that the security challenges in Nigeria indicated that the existing administration lacks the required capability to securely safeguard lives and property.
“When I talk about leadership, I emphasize competence, capacity, compassion, commitment, and character. These are the key issues. President Tinubu is fatigued. He needs to step down and take a break,” Obi remarked.
He stated that Nigerians should scrutinize the records and abilities of those aiming for public office rather than relying solely on political party loyalties or their campaign rhetoric when making electoral choices.
Adeboye Supports Tinubu
Previously, Adeboye had defended Tinubu against allegations of inadequately responding to the nation’s growing insecurity.
The cleric made these comments during the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala hosted by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., on June 23.
He asserted that the President, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has fulfilled his duties by providing directives to military leaders and other security personnel.
"I do not align with individuals who claim the President is failing to take adequate action. When the Commander-in-Chief issues orders to his team, he has fulfilled his responsibilities. It is unreasonable to expect him to don a military uniform and engage in combat," Adeboye stated.
While standing up for Tinubu, the leader of RCCG voiced worry that acts of terrorism, kidnappings, and other forms of violent crime have extended from the northern regions to southern areas of the nation.
He revealed that he recommended to the President to set a 90-day ultimatum for military leaders to manage the issue of insecurity effectively or step down from their roles.
Adeboye further called on the government to identify and hold accountable those funding terrorism, emphasizing that the authorities are already aware of several individuals backing violent organizations in the nation.
